I hope you're all well and happy at this glorious time of year. Spring is upon us and I for one could not be more grateful as its finally starting to warm up in Newcastle.
Today I wanted to talk to you lovely people about a local company here in Newcastle Upon Tyne that I've recently become aware of and admire greatly.
The White T-Shirt Company is a brand dedicated to ethical fashion production. After studying fashion production in textiles and geography at school and being deputy head of the FairTrade committee in sixth form, ethical fashion is something I care greatly about.
The White T-Shirt Company was launched in 2004 working in partnership with Novotex to produce the perfect white t-shirt as an essential staple in anyone's wardrobe. The fabric used by The White T-Shirt Company is GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified cotton ensuring it is grown to meet high ecological and social standards.
Not only are they a socially conscious brand, but their products are also divine. As we all know, white t-shirts of any variation; round neck, tank top, long sleeved, short sleeved etc are a necessity in anyone's wardrobe. I can not stress the importance of investing in a high quality staple such as The White T-Shirt Company's products. They are life-long essentials and being classical pieces they will never go out of style.
I think we all need to be more conscious of our global fashion footprint. Not only do we need to be more aware of where our cotton comes from, but also the conditions under which it is grown, the wages its producers are paid, the conditions under which they work as well as what happens to our clothes once we no longer need them. As technology advances, our economy grows and our quality of life increases, we can not leave others in third world countries behind as we move forward.
I know that I am not a saint in this respect, of course I still shop in stores where I know the workers are not treated particularly well but on a student budget its not always easy to be good. Hopefully one day I will be able to shop without feeling guilty about how my clothes have been manufactured and grown. Thanks to brands like The White T-Shirt Company, this day may not be too far away.
